I was planning to write this post yesterday, but we have been busy enjoying our fun-filled days of Christmas Extravaganza with Emma, so I'm hurrying to write this now, before we start her nightly treatments followed by a bath and trach care, since I work the next two days!
Last Tuesday Michael's parents arrived in town from Birmingham and on Wednesday we were able to pick out our tree from a festive tent in Winter Garden instead of getting it at Lowes like we normally do. However, when we got there at 2pm the sign said they were not open until 3pm. At first I was bummed, but we walked around town for an hour and went into a bunch of cute stores that we had never been in before! Then we found a juice bar that had expanded and now sell smoothies, so I got one and Michael shared his BBQ sandwich.
Christmas tree shopping photos:
Snoozing away, not helping us pick out a tree. But either was I- too busy taking the pictures. Michael picked out a great one for us!
Below: Michael and his dad being silly.
She's awake! Also it is very important to remember that this day (December 5th) was about 60 degrees outside. I am pretty sure this has been the coldest tree-picking-out day in 9 years because Michael usually mentions that it doesn't feel right picking out a Christmas tree when it's 85 degrees outside with 92% humidity. I agree, so this experience was wonderful!
Michael's mom looking extra stylish with her boots!
Each tree came with a Santa hat and they cut off a piece of the trunk and give it to the customer so they can see how old the tree is. Ours is between 10 and 11 years old. The man selling them even tied it to the roof of my car for us. (Lowes doesn't do that.)
Emma was a little less than happy in these pictures. Still tired due to just waking up from her nap and also sometimes the ventilator circuit tubes pull on her trach when she is not laying down, but I'm still posting them because, although the photos may not be perfect, she is and this is our life with a magnificent medical baby!
Fun fact: Exactly 1 year ago from today (December 11th) we arrived in Michigan where we stayed for 73 days for Emma's big surgery. I mentioned it was her "Zombiversary" because her heart stopped for 9 minutes, then came back to life! THANK GOD that when 6 month old Emma arrived in Heaven He told her that it wasn't time yet and that she has so much more to do and so many more people to help on Earth. Michael does not like thinking about that, so we'll just call it our "Michiverary" instead. :)
Tomorrow Emma will be exactly 18 months old!
